[00:00:00] Speaker A: Five minute film finder. Sizzle Reel. [00:00:10] Speaker B: Hello and welcome back to five Minute Film Finder. I'm Ben. [00:00:13] Speaker A: And I'm Tracy. [00:00:15] Speaker B: And today we're having our first two host March Sizzle Reel episode. So it's March. We're talking about staff suggestions. We're talking about some new DVDs. Have you seen any new movies, just like in general in your life? [00:00:29] Speaker A: Have I seen any new movies ever in my life ever? [00:00:31] Speaker B: This is a trick question. [00:00:32] Speaker A: Yes, I go to the movies all the time. [00:00:35] Speaker B: You are one of the people that I credit with single handedly holding up the live film industry. [00:00:42] Speaker A: I have some friends and I believe that we are the last group of people who are keeping the theaters alive. So I do love a new film. [00:00:50] Speaker B: Absolutely. Any suggestions for what you've been seeing in theaters lately? [00:00:55] Speaker A: I would say the last one that I saw that I'd be like, go see it. Is how to Make a Killing with Glen Powell. [00:01:00] Speaker B: Okay. [00:01:00] Speaker A: The UA24 movie. Yeah. Super fun. Okay. Yes. So I will say just going ahead and recommending things that are on houppel on Canopy. The film that that is based off, which is called Kind Hearts and Coronets is on Canopy right now. [00:01:13] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't know it was a remake. [00:01:15] Speaker A: Yes, it is. Of an Alec Guinness film. [00:01:18] Speaker B: Cool. [00:01:18] Speaker A: Yes. That I started watching and then didn't finish because that's sometimes how I watch movies. But I will get back around to it. [00:01:24] Speaker B: Great. All right. I have a one year old, so I don't go to the movies ever. So hence this podcast. We stay home. We stream a lot after the baby's in bed. But we've got a lot of cool stuff on the platforms this month. A lot of new stuff coming onto the platform and also going soon. So get straight to the streamers this month because lots of hot properties on hoopla. Do you want to jump into the staff picks? [00:01:56] Speaker A: Let's go ahead and jump into the staff picks. [00:01:58] Speaker B: All right. Jamie's starting us off with Little Shop of Horrors, the 1986 version. [00:02:04] Speaker A: We love an unbelievable movie. Also technically a remake of a non musical. The 1986 version is. The musical version has some unbelievable musical numbers in it. An all star Rick Moranis performance. Yes. Also an all star underrated bit performance by Steve Martin. [00:02:25] Speaker B: Steve Martin as an incredible villain. A rare villain role as a dentist. Yeah, yeah. [00:02:32] Speaker A: And of course, a giant evil plant that simply wants to be fed human blood. [00:02:37] Speaker B: Yeah. Feed me Seymour. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Feed Ms. Seymour. [00:02:40] Speaker B: Gosh. Yeah. [00:02:41] Speaker A: Watch little shot before us. I'm gonna go watch it as soon as we're done recording this. [00:02:44] Speaker B: Absolutely. Next up, we have Samuel recommending shattered glass from 2003. Neither of us had actually heard of this, and we were just diving deep into a little bit of the background information. But it's a gripping drama telling the true story of journalist Stephen Glass and one of the most infamous scandals in modern journalism. So basically just a cautionary tale about sensationalism pushing stories too far. But it's got an incredible cast. You were just looking it up. [00:03:14] Speaker A: Bonkers cast. The main role is played by Hayden Christensen, who is best known as Anakin Skywalker from the prequel Star wars films, and from the movie Jumper and Little Italy. Oh, I forgot Little Italy. Also on one of the platforms this month. Peter Sarsgaard, Chloe Savigny, Steve Zahn, Melanie Lynskey, Rosario Dawson, Hank Azaria. The list goes on. It's a crazy cast, truly. [00:03:42] Speaker B: Next up, Darren has, I think, one of our all time classic action films, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, from 1989. Second best. First best. Do you have ratings for the Indiana Jones? Are you a fan of the Indiana Jones franchise? [00:04:00] Speaker A: I love Indiana Jones. It's not one that I revisit a lot. I would say that I do love the Last Crusade because this one has Sean Connery in it. [00:04:09] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:04:10] Speaker A: Last Crusade is the. This is the cup of a Carpenter. [00:04:14] Speaker B: Yes. [00:04:14] Speaker A: Which is, I think, one of the most important lines in cinematic history. [00:04:19] Speaker B: Absolutely. Yeah. I was in love with this one as a kid because I was also a big old James Bond fan. So I was just like, James Bond's in this one and he's Indiana Jones dad. This is crazy. [00:04:31] Speaker A: There's kind of no point in Sean Connery's life and career where Sean Connery didn't come on screen. And it wasn't just like, heck, yeah. Because he's a charisma machine and so is Harrison Ford. He just got a lifetime achievement at SAG because he's the coolest best actor ever. [00:04:48] Speaker B: Yeah. So they have, I believe, three out of the five Indiana Jones available on hoopla right now just for this month. So go get them. I believe they don't have the first or the last one available, but all the ones in between. So go check those out to get your Spielberg and Indy fix. Lots of good Spielberg on there as well. [00:05:11] Speaker A: Yes. Get ready for a new Spielberg this summer. [00:05:14] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Disclosure Day, which I'm super excited about. It looks really intense and good. It looks cool. [00:05:20] Speaker A: So hit the whole catalog via Hoopla Canopy and maybe grabbing some DVDs from the library. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Absolutely. What's your suggestion for this month? [00:05:29] Speaker A: My suggestion is just a really important art film from 1992. You may have never heard of it. It's called Wayne's World. [00:05:37] Speaker B: Incredible. [00:05:39] Speaker A: Wayne's World is on hoopla. So is Wayne's World 2 on hoopla, it seems like for only this month. So run, don't walk. You may think that Wayne's World is about friends, Mike Myers and Data Carvey. It's not. It's about how Tia Carrera is the coolest person who's ever lived. Yeah, just about like any comedy that we recommend from the late 80s, early 90s. Does everything hold up? No, but a lot of stuff does. Yeah. If you see the scene where they're just talking about ad placement in films. I watched that this morning and cried. It's so funny. [00:06:13] Speaker B: And I mean, and we were talking before we started recording like the peak level silly comedy just like hurting nobody. Just pointless jokes that just make you go, he is so stupid. [00:06:27] Speaker A: But then also, Tia Carrera is the coolest person who's ever lived full stop in this film. Her doing Fire by Jimi Hendrix. [00:06:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:41] Speaker A: Get out of town. Watch it for Tia Carrera and then enjoy all the other stuff as well. [00:06:46] Speaker B: Absolutely. We'll wrap up with my suggestion, which is Marcel the Shell with shoes on from 2021. This is a a 24 film that had its roots in little web shorts that were just this silly stop motion animation of this cute little shell with shoes on voiced by Ginny Slate. And it's just like. It's silly, it's lovely, it's heartfelt. There's a kind of crazy emotional arc in this movie that I had no idea how they pulled that off with the premise that they started with. [00:07:25] Speaker A: I know how it's. Cause they cast Isabella Rossellini in it, who is one of the finest actresses of our time. [00:07:33] Speaker B: She said, don't worry, I've got this. That's our suggestions for this month. So obviously a lot of great stuff on there with the A24 stuff. I think a lot of that stuff is also leaving soon. So get into that and check those out. Ms. Jamie was very kind to send me a list of what's new in physical media at the library this month. So we have some new DVDs arriving. I bet Tracy has seen half of these and she may be able to comment on them. Five Nights at Freddy's 2. [00:08:07] Speaker A: I have not seen Five Nights at Freddy's 2, but Matthew Lillard supremacy. [00:08:12] Speaker B: Great. Yes, absolutely. House of Ka. I don't know what that is? [00:08:16] Speaker A: I don't know what that is either, but I will look it up. [00:08:19] Speaker B: King Ivory. [00:08:21] Speaker A: No. [00:08:23] Speaker B: Now you see Me, now you Don't. [00:08:24] Speaker A: Yes, yes. [00:08:26] Speaker B: Of the Magician franchise. [00:08:28] Speaker A: Now you3me, as I like to call it now you3me highly recommend the entire now you franchise. Now youw See Me, now you don't has. Oh, I just forgot her name. But the villain is a fabulous British woman who I love, but she's doing an insane South African accent. It's incredible. It's got Dominic Sessa from the Holdover in it, who I love as a young actor. And all of your favorites of the Kingsman are back. [00:08:58] Speaker B: Rosamund Pike. [00:09:00] Speaker A: Yes. [00:09:00] Speaker B: I was like a terrifying woman when [00:09:02] Speaker A: she plays a villain, and she's delicious. And now you see me, now you don't. [00:09:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Let's see. Up next, we have Predator Badlands, which I just started. [00:09:13] Speaker A: I did not get to see Predator Badlands in theaters, but it is all my friends talked about for weeks when they saw it. So it's also a great year for Elle Fanning, who is currently nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. [00:09:23] Speaker B: Absolutely. Yeah. Next up, Regretting youg. [00:09:27] Speaker A: I did not see Regretting youg. I am sorry. I am not a Colleen Hoover girl. [00:09:33] Speaker B: Okay. [00:09:34] Speaker A: But I love it for the girls who are. [00:09:36] Speaker B: What are the vibes for Colleen Hoover? [00:09:39] Speaker A: Very, very high, mellow drama. [00:09:41] Speaker B: Okay. Sure, sure, sure. Yep, yep, yep. Also not for me, the Running Man. [00:09:48] Speaker A: I did see the Running Man. A good time. [00:09:50] Speaker B: Yeah. A medium. Glenn Powell. Not a top Glen Powell. [00:09:54] Speaker A: Not a top Glen Powell. But good to see him. Try an action star. You know who it is. A top film for Michael Cera. [00:10:00] Speaker B: Yes, I've heard that. [00:10:01] Speaker A: He's so good. [00:10:02] Speaker B: Yeah, I heard that. Like, between that and his other movie, the Phoenician Scheme. [00:10:08] Speaker A: Oh, don't even get me started. [00:10:09] Speaker B: That he was just having a real great year. Yeah. [00:10:12] Speaker A: Also a deliciously evil Colman Domingo in this movie. Yes. [00:10:16] Speaker B: Well, I mean, anytime he shows up, [00:10:18] Speaker A: look, put him in everything. It's all I want. [00:10:22] Speaker B: Next up, we got Sisu. Road to Revenge. [00:10:25] Speaker A: No, but I've heard the SISU films are incredible. [00:10:28] Speaker B: Just watch the first one. It is. I mean, if you love a revenge and also, like, are mad at Nazis. Yeah, it's definitely in that realm of just, like. This is brutal. This is hard to watch if you can't stomach violence. So be warned of that. [00:10:46] Speaker A: Quotes Brad Pitt, kill some Nazis. [00:10:48] Speaker B: Yep, exactly. Yeah. Next is Song Sung Blue. [00:10:53] Speaker A: Oh, I'm glad to know that we have that on dvd, because I did not get the chance to see that in theaters. Bringing it back to the Oscars. Kate Hudson. Kate Hudson nominated for best Actress. I heard a surprisingly good time. [00:11:05] Speaker B: I heard a surprisingly good movie. I heard very sad. [00:11:10] Speaker A: I think Bummersville. [00:11:11] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, Huge bummer. Entertaining about incredible film about very sad stuff. [00:11:16] Speaker A: A Neil diamond cover band with Hugh Jackman and King Hudson. [00:11:22] Speaker B: So my wife went and saw that on her own and I was like, oh, was it a fun time? And she's like, I can't characterize it that way, but it was very good. I was like, okay. [00:11:35] Speaker A: My friend Jared, who is a listener to the podcast, went and saw and texted me and was like, cried my eyes out. And I was like, cool, buddy. Gotta check it out. [00:11:41] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. And rounding this out we got Zootopia 2, which I have not seen, but I've seen the Zootopia, lovely animated franchise. I've heard it holds up. [00:11:52] Speaker A: I've heard it holds up too. I didn't get a chance to see that in theaters, but I do love Zootopia 1, so I will be grabbing that ZVD of Zootopia 2. [00:11:59] Speaker B: Great. Well, that's all I have. Is there anything that you want to round us out with any suggestions or [00:12:05] Speaker A: just want to go ahead and highlight that on Kanopy this month they're doing food films. [00:12:09] Speaker B: Food films. I believe we are planning for you and another person to cover some food films for us. [00:12:15] Speaker A: We're cover some food films but go check out the A good list the spread because it's unreal. What's in there. I know the Birdcage is in there, which is a personal favorite film of mine. A bunch of cool foreign films. But then also like My Dinner with Andre is in there. Like classic Criterion type film. Really good stuff across the board and some cool looking documentaries. [00:12:38] Speaker B: Absolutely. I'm glad you mentioned this because I got so thrown off having another host that I forgot we highlight the themes of the month. Also on Hoopla they are highlighting movies featuring Oscar nominees for this year. So a whole lot of great stuff from a lot of people. Like usually the movie club has about four or five movies. This time it's about 12. Yeah. So all that you can get without using your credit. So that's really nice. But that's all I have for us today. Thank you for joining me. It was a lot more fun not just sitting by myself with a microphone. [00:13:15] Speaker A: I'm so happy to be here. You know, I love to talk about movies whenever. [00:13:18] Speaker B: Absolutely. All right, we will see you next week with Mystery Episode I haven't decided yet. [00:13:25] Speaker A: We'll figure it out. [00:13:26] Speaker B: All right. Bye. [00:13:26] Speaker A: Bye.
