[00:00:07] Speaker A: Sizzle Reel hello and welcome to a brand new season of five Minute Film Finder. I'm Ben and I'll be your host for today's December Sizzle Reel episode. Each month we kick things off with one of these short Sizzle Reel episodes where we highlight staff picks, share what's featured on our streaming platforms, and let you know about new additions to the library's physical media collection. Alright, let's jump into this month's staff picks.
First off, Samuel recommends Invasion of the body snatchers from 1978. The chilling Sci fi thriller is a standout remake that taps into paranoia and loss of identity and remains just as unsettling today as when it first came out.
Darren brings us under siege from 1992, directed by Andrew Davis. A definitive Steven Seagal action movie featuring memorable turns from Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey. Perfect for if you're in the mood for some high energy 90s action.
[00:01:12] Speaker A: Just if you like Steven Seagal, this is a great one to watch.
Jamie suggests Weird the Al Yankovic story from 2022. Directed by Erica Pell. This hilarious biopic skewers every music biopic trope imaginal while celebrating the singular talent of Weird Al. It also stars Daniel Radcliffe, which I think just further makes the absurdity of the kind of parody aspect of this biopic super fun. So definitely a fun watch if you like a good absurd comedy.
[00:01:48] Speaker A: Tracy would like you to watch the Apartment from 1960. Directed by Billy Wilder. Stars Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon. It's a classic romantic comedy, bouncing sharp comedy with genuine heart and kind of just a a picture of an era of that kind of witty comedy.
Definitely a checkout if if you're a fan of like witty repartee and sharp biting bits.
[00:02:23] Speaker A: My pick for the month is I love you man from 2009. A great comfort watch about friendship, growing up, figuring out who your people are.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: I think an interesting.
[00:02:37] Speaker A: Watch for men talking about friendship.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: And Jason Segel and Paul Rudd are just incredible and it's they're hilarious and it's a defining role and era for them.

New and upcoming releases include the Best Christmas Fashion Ever, Just in Time for the Holidays.
Downton Abbey the Grand finale which is wrapping up the series as they are ending it. Freakier Friday bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. So a new twist on the the same plot.

The Naked Gun, which is the brand new sequel to the series that we covered just a few episodes back in our last season, which is classic comedy and sure to bring the laughs. Materialists featuring Chris Evans who we always love here on the podcast Relay, which I believe is a technology spy thriller.
[00:03:52] Speaker A: Him, which is a sports horror thriller, I believe.
And then the conjuring last rites for anyone looking to balance out their holidays with a little bit of horror.
And coming soon. Currently on order. Keep an eye out for Bone Lake and the Long Walk.

The they have musical adaptations, modern rethinkings with Scrooge, and just a lot of versions to enjoy and take in over there.
