[00:00:00] Speaker A: Five Minute Film Finder Sizzle Reel hello and welcome to a brand new season of five Minute Film Finder, brought to you by Pioneer Library System in Oklahoma. I'm Ben and I'll be your host for today. In addition to this being the start of a new season, this is also the inaugural episode of our new monthly Sizzle Reel mini episode. If you're joining us for the first time, this is the podcast where we help you discover your next great movie, available for free with your library card through Hoopla and Canopy. We're excited to be back and share some updates this season. We're rolling out a new regular schedule with weekly episodes each month. We'll kick off with this quick Sizzle Reel, a short episode where we highlight monthly themes on Canopy and Hoopla, share a few staff picks and let you know what's on physical media at your library. Then on the second and third Wednesdays, we'll drop our regular episodes where our hosts each get five minutes to convince you why their chosen film is worth watching. And finally, on the fourth Wednesday, we'll bring you a rotating special. It could be a deep focus episode, diving into a single standout film, a new releases feature, or even a spotlight on a TV series available through Hoopla or Campy. All right, let's get into this month's staff picks. Samuel recommends the confession 1970, directed by Acostas Gavras, based on the true story of Artur London. Kindle brings us two bold choices, Darren Aronofsky's the Fountain and and the gripping space documentary Apollo 11 from 2019 by director Todd Douglas Miller. Jamie is keeping things light this month with two mid-80s comedy classics, Clue, directed by Jonathan Lin, and Rob Reiner's mockumentary masterpiece this is Spinal Tap. You may have just seen that the sequel is out in theaters. And Jamie also recommends the book that Rob Reiner wrote on this is Spinal Tap called A Fine Line Between Stupid and Clever. Lastly, Darren would like you to watch the wild fantasy classic Beastmaster from 1982 by Don Coscarelli and the De Niro action Thriller Ronin from 1998 directed by John Frankenheimer. Now for this month's themes, Canopy is celebrating November featuring a lineup of both classic and modern noir films. They really have a pretty wide range, starting from old classics Dark City, they've got Chinatown, all the way through the modern classics of the genre. You've got Memento, you've got no country for Old Men. Really very well collected, well curated list of noir movies. Now over on Hoopla It's All About Thanksgiving favorites, including the beloved comedy Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I was perusing their list of watches for this and I noticed that they had the title Game Day, which. Which actually was filmed right here in Norman, Oklahoma. All right, that's all for today's Sizzle Reel. We're very excited to get you guys more regular episodes this season and a little more variety, adding in some TV shows and getting back to some new releases, as well as giving this little monthly digest at the beginning of each month. Tell your friends, tell your family that this is the place to listen to. Find great new watches on your library streaming services, as well as find out what's going on with the physical new releases in our Libra. Until then, we'll see you on next week's episode with Much Ado About Nothing and She's the Man. Until then, happy watching. Bye.
